Dr Darryl Tan and Nurse Krysten had a wonderful opportunity to visit with a local primary school, Orchard Grove Primary School, to give a dental talk to 100 of the school children.
The teachers started off the day talking through with what is healthy eating, what are “sometimes” foods such as chocolate and cakes, and what we should “all the time” such as vegetables and fruits which are great for growing teeth and bodies.

Fun tools were used to show the children proper dental care for life. Everyone loves an oversized pair of teeth!
Dr Tan and Nurse Krysten were showing children how to brush their teeth properly using a much loved pair of oversized teeth and toothbrush! The children loved it. One school student, Meg, was asked to help with Dr Tan and Nurse Krysten on how to behave at the dentist. She was sitting in a chair and was able to show the others how to sit comfortably, wear the sunglasses so the lights don’t hurt your eyes, open your mouth wide and Dr Tan was able to count Meg’s teeth using the dental mirror.
The day ended with a question and answer session and the children had a lot of interesting questions such as ‘why do our teeth fall out’, ‘how often do we need to brush our teeth’ and ‘do dogs and cats have to go to a dentist too’! The wonderful teachers also captured the whole thing with photos and even put us on their school blog!
